BARRINGTON, R.I. (October 13, 2010) -- The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference earned top honors as the No. 1 Division II men's track & field conference in a statistical analysis done by

The analysis looked at the first and sixth place performance in every individual event at this year's Division II Outdoor Conference Championship meets. then ranked all 15 conferences in every event, taking an average ranking of each conference to determine the final rankings.

The Mid-America Conference topped the list with an average ranking of 3.97, followed by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 5.0 and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference at 5.11. The Lone Star Conference was No. 4 (6.66) with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference coming in at No. 5 (6.66). See below for complete rankings.

"What was interesting is the talent is really spread out across DII leagues," said Steve Turgeon, founder of "We ranked the conferences using 38 sets of results, and 11 of the 15 conferences came out on top of at least one of the rankings." also ranked the conferences in the sprints (100, 200, 400), the distance races (1500, 5K, 10K) and throwing events (Hammer, Discus, Shot, Javelin). The Lone Star Conference topped the Sprints ranking (3.0 average ranking) followed by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (4.33) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (4.55). The Great Northwest Athletic Conference was tops in the Distance Ranking (3.33) followed closely by the Mid-America Conference (3.67) and Pennsylvania State (5.17).

The Mid-America Conference dominated the throwing events with an average ranking of 1.63. The Great Lakes Conference was next at 4.13 and the Lone Star Conference was third at 4.25.
